Over 4th of July weekend we went camping with the husband's family. It was awesome. The weather was perfect which is probably the only reason that Melrose was a perfect little angel the entire time. We are so glad we had our little monkey with us because she made the camping adventure that much better for us. Me and the babe slept in our huge mack-daddy tent while Dan slept in the mini, little guy tent.
It was a perfect set-up.
Melrose went to bed at her usual time. I followed suit an hour or two later. And what happened next was nice, peaceful rest until the little monkey started her cute little foreign language baby talk at 7am.
Dan drank with the boys. Stumbled into his bed. Snored all night. And got a wake-up call at around 7:15am when I brought him the monkey with a fresh diaper and sippy cup. Then momma laid back down because morning time does not agree with pregnancy. ::::puke::::
We swam. We ate. Dan drank. We chilled. We blew bubbles. We saw fireworks. It was awesome times a million.
We can't wait to go again next year...with Melrose and baby numero dos in tow. Right now we are currently in the process of convincing my parents to come so they can help us out!
And then on really sad and depressing news......
Our family friend, my dad's best friend, passed away on July 8th. He was 52. It has been so sad. Randy was the coolest guy- just like my dad. He was super handy, he could pretty much fix or build anything. He was lots of fun and had a great sense of humor. He was caring and nice and a great person to have around. He was diagnosed with lung cancer at the end of 2008/beginning of 2009 and it was a downward spiral since then.
He had been getting radiation, but it wasn't helping. He was in and out of the hospital, but this soon changed to just being in the hospital. I got to see and talk to him one last time on July 2nd after I photographed the wedding. I held his hand and told him Dan, Melrose and I had been thinking about him. He thanked me for everything and congratulated me on the pregnancy. And that was it.
Back when he was diagnosed with cancer he asked me to take photos of him and his family. He was a nurse, so I think he knew deep down what was going to happen. He wanted to have lasting images that his family could keep forever- even after he was gone.

I feel so bad for his wife, his son and his daughter. It just doesn't seem fair. Randy was such a good guy. He didn't deserve an end like this. He will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him.

So heartbreaking...I am happy though that he got to see his daughter get married and for his daughter, that he was there.
