Part One: A Wedding.
I shot a wedding tonight that was so heartbreaking it was almost too much for me to handle. My parents have these best friends. They are totally cool. They have come to party at our house, hung out with us, played the Wii with us. They are just so down to earth. Their daughter, who graduated with my brother, got married this afternoon. The wedding was supposed to be July 18th, but her dad, my dad's best buddy, is in the hospital with cancer. So they had the wedding in the hospital so he could be part of this big day.
It was actually a very nice set-up. The hospital had a conference room for the wedding and everyone pulled together to make it happen. But, as soon as the woman started playing the wedding music on the piano I nearly lost it. I had to separate myself from the situation to be able to keep my composure to take the photographs.
The whole situation is just so sad. This guy is the best- he is just like my dad, they were literally two peas in a pod. The whole family is a great bunch. I graduated high school with their son, so we've known them for quite a while. I just can't get past how sad I am over this. I wish I could do something to make him healthy. Everyone does. It just never seems ok when this type of thing happens to someone who is so nice and only in his early 50s.
The sadness from this wedding will stay with me for a long time.
