Wrong week to try this.
To digress a bit... We went to her 4 mo old check up for shots and such and the doctor suggested we try switching back to the normal formula (versus the hypoallergenic we have been giving her). This would help our pocketbook and confirm if she still has a problem with milk/milk protein.
We switched and.....yay! No more allergies. She must have been sensitive to it because she was born a wee bit early and so very tiny...either way, she has grown out of that problem. Double yay because now I can eat more dairy (I had to restrict my diet because I am still breastfeeding).
I guess you could say I was feeling fairly confident about this newfound 'no more allergies' business and thought it was a good idea to take her off of her acid reflux medication for a few days to test this out. The doctor has also suggested she might grow out of this and said there is no harm in taking her off this once in a while to see if she still needs it.
So, right before the busiest week of the year (thus far) I decide to take her off of her medication. We were just finishing up the bottle of Pepcid and I figured it would be a fine time to see if she still had reflux.
Bad. Bad. BAD decision.
The first day or so went fine. In retrospect this was probably because the Pepcid was still in her system. On day three the shit hit the fan.
Crying, screaming, squirming, not wanting to take a bottle, waking up all night long.
We thought, "hmmm, maybe she has a cold or something" as we didn't want to jump to conclusions. So we waited another day.
Bad. Bad. Bad. BAD decision.
Lets just say, thank god I had Dan to help me out. She was a mess. I felt so terrible, because I knew at this point it was because of the medication and it was my fault she was in so much misery.
In quick order I ran to CVS to refill her prescription (with her screaming in the backseat of course) and started to give her the medication right away. That night she slept a little better and was a little less fussy. It progressively got better every day and today she is acting like her old self.
